WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Social Gaming Leadership Alliance (SGLA) released the following statement from SGLA Managing Director Sean Ostrow on the introduction of Minnesota SF 4474 and HF 4410:
“Social Plus games are a popular form of entertainment enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans and have been operating lawfully in the state for over a decade. SF 4474/HF 4410 would ban responsible Social Plus companies and drive the Minnesota adults who enjoy them into the arms of illegal operators who engage in nefarious business practices. Further, the bill targets mainstream financial institutions, geolocation providers and know-your-customer services – the very people that currently keep Minnesotans safe while engaging in this form of free and low-cost entertainment. We urge Minnesota lawmakers to study this issue and pursue smart regulation rather than prohibition.”
SGLA is working with Minnesota legislators to adopt enhanced regulatory standards for the industry that would protect consumers through strict age verification, data privacy, and responsible social gameplay protections, while generating $20 million in annual tax revenue for the state.
