Digital commerce opens economic opportunities for ALL tribes

WASHINGTON, DC – California tribal nations opposing AB 831, including Kletsel Dehe Wintun Nation, Sherwood Valley Rancheria of Pomo Indians, the Mechoopda Indian Tribe of Chico Rancheria and Big Lagoon Rancheria, have come together to share the story of the difference the economic development opportunities that digital platforms like online social games with sweepstakes could mean to the lives of their people.

If passed, AB 831 would ban legitimate online social games with sweepstakes promotions in the state, one of the few viable pathways for tribes to fund vital services like healthcare, food programs, education, transportation and more.

Visit https://sgleadership.org/stopab831/ to see what tribal leaders have to say about the economic opportunities online social games could provide, and the adverse impacts if AB 831 becomes law.

The tribes’ opposition to AB831 shines a light on the deep division and lack of tribal agreement towards this flawed bill even among gaming tribes. The video shows the importance of instead pursuing policies that expand economic opportunity and respect tribal sovereignty.
